While doing a few loads of laundry today and listening to the washer squeak like a mouse is caught in it and then during the rinse cycle sound like a space ship landing I started to think about how nice it would be to have a new washer/dry. Then how nice it would be to have a new dish washer. The unit is like 14 years old. So...if you could get any new appliances what would it be? And how pathetic are some of your appliances? |

Recommendations on a sewing machine?
I am contemplating the purchase of a sewing machine as a gift. Said sewing machine needs to be portable, sturdy, and relatively straightforward and easy for people with low experience to use. It's hopefully going to a high school theatre's costume department. So, since we are all fabulous domestic deities, what are your recommendations? |

Butter :)
Heya everyone! With Thanksgiving around the corner, my mom and I are practicing our recipes for when our hungry extended family comes over. I made some banana raisin and walnut muffins, a pumpkin pie, and pumpkin muffins. All heaven! Only thing is, when my banana muffins came out, they were dry >:l So I said, this would be a good opportunity to make my own butter! I was originally going to do apple butter or cinnamon butter, but just regular butter for now before I move into the big leagues. I used to make when I was little, I can't wait to do it again :3 Here's the recipe for everyone! http://www.ohdeedoh.com/ohdeedoh/how-to/cooking-with-kids-how-to-make-butter-049117It's super simple! Only thing that's different is, when I was little I remember picking up "heavy sweet cream." All I saw at the store was "heavy cream" and "whipping cream" And I was like "Poo!" But the heavy cream is what you want ;) Candace Current Mood: awake |

window cleaning
Here is my window cleaning trick for those of you who don't like or can't afford nasty chemicals and because it is too good not to share. My grandma taught me this, she used to do it in the war when there wasn't fabric to waste as cleaning rags. fill a mixing bowl/ small bucket with water as hot as you can stand to put your hand in add a generous splash of lemon OR white vinegar (lemon is nicest and it stops cats from scratching the window frames) scrunch up lots of newspaper (newspaper doesnt make smears you see, no fibres to come off.) Dip the newspaper into the mixture and wipe over the window pains, go over with dry newspaper to give it a pretty gleam. happy guy fawkes day every-one. :) |

Bugs gluing themselves in the worst places
Kind of a gross question...but I need to get it done. In our bathroom there are a bunch of little black bugs that have died and been suction-cupped to our ceiling. Everytime I shower and look up, there they are and it is very gross. Im sure people who have come over have seen them. I have tried get them down with a broom and such, but all I have gotten done is taking a few wings off. Its annoying. How do I get bugs off my bathroom ceiling?
